I just bought my first boat and hate to say it but I pretty much know ZERO about outboards from maintenance to normal operation. I had to get help to figure out how to use the waterhose to start it  and then thought I had broken it when smoke came out of the prop :D So I'm pretty green.

I was looking for a good site that has information for the beginners. Ive taken a boaters safety course and have driven boats before so I know about that aspect. Its just the engines operation Im a novice on. Im in the process of ordering a service manual for my engine but would like to find some info on the net to look over.

Any help is appeciated. Thanks

Oh Ive already learned alot by reading these forum boards. But dont really see any of the questions I have that have already been posted. I d hate to flood the board with questions that most people would already know.

You might be surprised at how many people have the same basic questions and are waiting for YOU to ask them, TWS.

Go ahead, flood the board with easy questions. A lot of newbie boaters will thank you for it. :)

Ask away.

Don't know which manual you have ordered, but most have a section in the front that covers basic outboard mechanics. Like how a 2 stroke engine operates.

Terms like trim, tilt, trigger, stator, cavitation plate, and many more, get thrown around here quite a bit. If you don't know what they are, just ask.

Here are a couple of books if you want to go indepth. One is a fairly expensive text book used in marine training schools but find a copy used or on Ebay to save a few bucks.

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/t...4/102-6399052-8396900?_encoding=UTF8&v=glance

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0070578567/102-6399052-8396900?v=glance

TWS do you bring your own food to restaurants too? That is what this site does. Answers just about any and all questions.
