Anyone recognize this (classic) boat?

Just bought it locally here in Rhode Island. Boat is titled as a 1962 Wolverine. I did a good amount of searching, and only come up with wooden Wolverine boats prior to 1960.

It's 14', aluminum with fiberglass top and fins in the back. Wolverine logo on both fins, but no other identifying tags that I can find. Batman logos are not OEM :). I'm told it's known as the bat boat in these parts!

Motor I have found lots of details on, it's a 58 Johnson Super Sea Horse 35hp. Runs, but roughly, so already digging into the typical stuff I've found here on various threads. Got the clymer manual which leaves much to be desired, but provides a decent guide.

Any help identifying the origins of this boat, and if it's properly titled would be greatly appreciated.

So far, mostly taking a visual around the motor and reading up in the shop guide. Planning carb rebuild first, and likely fuel pump cleanup. It starts and runs for less than a minute then loads up. Was spitting raw fuel out the orifice next to the main air intake. Figuring the float is stuck.

According to PO, it was gone through thoroughly 2 years ago with carb rebuild, impeller, etc, and run just once last year. Wasn't really winterized, and I think the carb sat with fuel in it over the winter. I'll get some pix of the motor posted in the Johnson forum, it's pretty clean.

Sounds like the carb is gunked with old gas crud. A good soaking/cleaning will tell the tale. Sweet lookin boat.

That boat is awesome! I wish I could keep it as a souvenir. Yes it has fins just like a 57' Chevy, also my first car! It's style also resembles a friends boat when I was a teenager, (minus the fins) it was a beautiful, very sleek, 13' Wolverine molded plywood hull, all high gloss varnished mahogany with a white bottom, & contrasting white trim, and a matching brown, & white, 35hp Johnson, it was one of the faster boats around at the time locally.

Maiden Voyage successfully completed!

:)

Took my boys out for a brief ride today and tuned the jets to what feels pretty nice. They LOVED it!! of course, so did I. The 58 Johnson ran like a champ, putting in and out to open area, and running very smoothly out in the open.

Overall, I'm not completely sure if I"m getting peak performance out of the engine, and I'll work on that in the engine forum, but wanted to let everyone know that the Bat Boat is back!!

Thoughts on my initial run

Thoughts on my initial run

On the first run out today, had just my two boys and me.

The motor really ran nice, and while it may need to fine-tune the jets, it seemed allright overall.

First off, I noticed when giving more throttle to bring up to full, it revs up moderatly slowly, not a quick ramp up as I expected to full throttle. Maybe I'm expecting a lot from a 35hp engine?

Second observation was that the boat never really came up to plane. I'm thinking that the angle of the motor is off, so I'll try it a notch lower to see if that makes a difference or not.

I found that the oil/fuel mixture is a little too low of a mix as PO had me set it up 5 gal to 1 qt oil, so I'm running 20-1 right now. I'll bring that down with next tank. I'll also take a look at the spark advance timing and throttle to make sure it's going to true full throttle.

I did find that once I had the low jet set, and min throttle, it just putted along like it was ready to go all day at low throttle.

Overall, a great first time out for me with the boat. Any thoughts on my observations above would be greatly appreciated.

You might go to fiberglassics .com Mostly fiberglass boats but there may be
Wolverine catalogs with fiberglass and aluminum.
I would think that motor with a good setup would plane easily and move out
about 25-27 mph.I believe it was rated for about 33 under ideal conditions.
