Just got some General Grabber HTS LT 245/75/17 tires for my 1/2t truck which had P rated tires on it. Our 3/4t fleet vehicles came with these General tires and we had to switch to real off road tires. Anyhow I was able to get all 5 of the new take offs for $65 apiece so I couldn't pass it up. $325 for a full set of tires is just to much to walk away from. I know they are better than the P rated tire I had on my truck and they ride well for a Load Range E tire. I was just curious if anyone else ran these and the luck they had with them.

ran 1 set of general tires a couple years ago on a car. two tires developed bulges, presumably from broken cords, within 10k miles. (they were NOT abused or curbed, they just were horrible tires...)

of course, alot can change since then.

We bought a set of Grabbers for the Trailblazer last year. They've been fine.

I believe the "P" rating yoou are referiing to is a speed rating. Ibelieve it is around 93 mph. depending on the load you are towing I would look for the load rating and sidewall plyhttp://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiretech/techpage.jsp?techid=35 My rig weighs about 6000lb.(boat and trailer) I have used load range "C" and wound up having several broken chords in a short time upgraded to load range "D "and the chords didn't break but you felt the sidewalls roll ( a lot ) my last set of tires I bought were 10 ply sidewalls with a load arnge of "E" the roll went away and the ride feels much better at all speeds but I saw the most improvement at highway speeds

The P he is talking about stands for Passenger - which is the type of tires they put on most 1/2 ton pickups from the factory (as opposed to an LT - Light Truck tire, which 3/4 and 1 tons come with)

I had some generals on my 2002 F150 from the factory, no quality complaints - towed just fine. I replaced them a couple years later with something that worked better in the snow.

LT 245/75/17 tires

LT Light truck if it were a passenger it would be P 245/75/17 Thats Right.

LT 245/75/17 is what he says he has.

If his LT245/75/17 has a "P" rating it is most likely a speed rating.

This is what he said.

Just got some General Grabber HTS LT 245/75/17 tires for my 1/2t truck which had P rated tires on it.

Translation - used to have P tires, now have LT tires

Just to add a little nothing to the conversation.
About 15 years back the track i used to race at had General XP2000's as the track mandated racing tires. They were just your every day passenger car tires that we raced on.
That was during the "they will turn on a dime and give you 9 cents change" commercial days.
They had decent durability, but the sidewalls were real weak, and they would lose traction at any given time and you would not be able to recover from the slide until you had slowed signifigently.
For this reason I will never own a set of them again unless you have a gun to my head, or a track I want to race on.
I'm sure they have changed over the years and should be better now. But the damage has been done.

And "P" is for Passenger. "LT" is for Light Truck. There is no "E" rated "P" tire.
There is not "P" speed rating, see the link.

Speed Rating Chart.
