Hi Guys, i'm thinking of sticking my spare lower unit up on eBay but I don't know if shipping it is feasible b/c of the long shaft. Seems like it would be a weird package to create. Has anyone done it ? if so how did you pack it up ?

I built a wooden crate.
Started with a sheet of plywood, placed lower unit on it, then blocked it in with 2x4 screwed through the ply.
placed another sheet of ply on top and screwed it down.
Protected the skeg, prop shaft, driveshaft, and ventilation plate.
Ship it fedex.

Its your job to protect it during shipping, brown paper and duct tape ain't gonna do it.

I shipped a few transmissions over the years with UPS. I buy a rubbermaid tote, put transmission in two plastic garbage bages. ratchet strap the transmission to a piece of plywood cut to fit tote. ad a few pieces for crush resistance, then drop transmission and plywood into tote

drill holes in the lid to zip-tie the lid down, wrap with duct tape, affix label.

I would not ship fed-ex. it will have tire marks from the guy running it over with his truck.

I have shipped 3 in the last 2 months.
All long shafts.

I get 2 big boxes from HD and start wrapping.
I cut a piece of 2x4x4 and drill a hole for the top of the shaft so it doesn't break through the top of the package.
I then use a bunch of packing tape or duct tape.
Looks like your shipping a big shovel.

I used UPS, cheaper than the USPS

Some people want a LOT of $ for their stuff.
One guy wanted $800 for a used unit(didn't sell)
I sold mine at 150 each and they sold FAST.
