Anyone trailer with the hardtop up?

We purchased our pontoon in Canada ( all paperwork was done in PA since it was PA registered) and unbolted / folded down the hardtop for the 320 mile ride home.

I was wondering if it would be safe to trailer with the hardtop up. It does have two uprights in the front and I would add tiedowns to help reduce movement.

Here's a picture of the boat with the hardtop up. ( obviously the windows would be taken down ) The uprights in the front corners are fastened to the side rails in two places with 1/4" bolts and fit into a pocket on the top when they are also bolted with 1/4" bolts.

and folded down after the trip home

Think it would be OK or is this not one of my better ideas?

i think speed is the # 1 factor, it is not built for high speed.

Local towing, speeds under 45, I think you're OK. Just watch your clearance height.

Otherwise, that top is a HUGE sail. I would not get on the highway with it.

I have a metal top on my Riveria Crusier like yours & I wouldn't dare try to go on the highway with it in the up position. With tractor trailers, large trucks & buses zipping past you at over 65 mph PLUS your towing speed, you are looking for an accident waiting to happen in my opinion for what it's worth. That top in the "UP" position will act just like a large sail on a sail boat.

Thanks for the replies. I did not think about the sail factor.

I guess I'll just reassemble the top when we arrive in Ontario Canada at fish camp.

Thanks again, greatly appreciated
