I guess the fact that no one ha answered by now is that no one has used the stuff.

But could anybody offer serious opinion or advice before I go paint my carbs with the yellow?

I'm was gonna try it but you go ahead and see what happens. Worse case scenario, I think carb cleaner will probably remove it.
Lettus know.

c/6

Hooty

Hooty-

The stuff's enamel, so maybe it won't come off with cleaner after it's fully cured? I know lacquer will

Is lacquer much harder than enamel? How about alkyd enamel? Someone selling outboard paint said that spray can alkyd enamel is the hardest of the aerosols

O-k.
Got two rattle-cans of Metalcast today. The yellow and the "ground". I tried it on my galvanized garbage can and it looks great. However, I don't think I'm gonna paint my carbs yellow. The "ground" is a silver/gray metalic base coat and the yellow is a translucent yellow so the effect is a candyapple color. I do like the "ground" color so that's what I'm using on my carbs. I wish I had painted them before rebuilding them though. They're a hastle to mask.

c/6

Hooty

Just this evening I was going to put my carbs in the dip bucket, get 'em cleaned up and rebuilt. If I'm going to paint them, tommorrow is the day. So that base coat messes up the yellow, eh? Maybe I'll just do what you're doing and just use the base. But what about self-etching primer?

I didn't use any primer. The carbs aren't subjected to much wear and tear so I think the paint will hold fine.
The base didn't mess up the yellow, i'm just not real hot for candyapple yellow carbs.
Get one of the color cans and play around with it. It looks cool.

c/6

Hooty

OK Hooty, I went to AutoZone, they had all of the Duplicolor Metalcast stuff. Base coat, yellow, blue, red, purple, etc. I picked up some base and yellow; gonna do the carbs today. I think I'll do the flywheel in base coat, also the rectifier bracket and maybe part of the distributor.

Hey Hooty, that stuff stinks. My wife was getting all mad at the cat 'till I told her that it was the part that I brought into the house and put under a lamp to finish drying. She says it smells like cat pee, and looks like cat pee. Well, I guess it does smell like cat pee . . . .

You mean it wasn't our cat ? I beat our cat with a board. Now I feel bad. (Just kiddin').
Tha stuff does smell bad though. You must have got the yellow too. I think it looks pretty neat but not a carburetor color. What did you think of the ground or base coat?

c/6

Hooty

I got the yellow. The carbs are sprayed now, and later tonight I'll put them back together if the paint is dry OK. I haven't sprayed the base yet on anything, but in a minute I'm going to spray some on a tin can and see how it looks. I think I'll spray some of the base coat on the bracket that holds up the rectifier, and the bracket on the distributor. Maybe the flywheel. I might just go get a different color for the flywheel.

Not carb color? Who said carbs can't be anodized aluminum?
