Re: Anyone use Easy Steer system
Well Jim I'd love to see some pics. But what I am saying by 'not functioning well' is exactly what you are describing, having to fiddle around with the motors and take the "easy steer" system off one motor or the other as to not cause issues. I guess if I want a low maintenance system I either have to buy the easy steer or spend a lot more time coming up with a prototype....
You might be over-thinking this. Its a piece of cake, no matter what your setup is. I don't have to fiddle around at all.
Use QD connections. (i.e., quick detatchable - that means no fiddling) Whether your main motor is an OB or an I/O, just drop it into position with the trim button. If you have no power trim, nothing to do.
Next, drop the kicker in the water. If you are using a bracket, just lower the bracket. If its on the transom, just tilt it down.
Finally, attach the steering rod with the QD ends - that takes all of 15 seconds.
When you're ready to stop running the kicker, take the rod off -another 15 seconds.
The initial adjustment is done on the trailer - never needs to be changed.
I realize that those 30 seconds of "fiddling" is harder than the EZS, but IMHO the EZS looks fugly.
Here are pics of the brackets with and without the rod installed. Please excuse the pic quality, and I'm sorry I couldn't get a pic showing the whole thing together but the boat is up against the back wall of the garage right now.
I built these brackets and cut the rod to fit 28 years ago and to this day I have done no maintenance on it. Both motors are aligned perfectly together and the steering is effortless. Mount the kicker on the stbd side - that way the tiller handle will be pointing in the right direction and easier to access.
