Hi, got an John faststrike -92 175.
How ever i try i cant get that shift switch work like it should (it should kill half the engine when you put it in gear)
So now i would like to talk to someone that got the same engine.
Yes i got a seloc manual but it doesnt say a word about that switch and i have order a omc manual.
What im most int. of is to see how the linkage is hooked up.

It only works when you come OUT of gear going into neutral.

How could it? I mean it hit the, how should i say this, well the same "spot" when you put in and out of gears, doesnt it?
I figure out how it works, that little knob is pushed up a little and kill half the engine.
Im for sure that your right (your the pro on here). Im just a little more interested how it work's, looks so simple.
And if its only there to help you get out of gear i do not have to wory about that my gears will get hurt when i push them in.

Just make sure the motor is idling low like it should and dont shift into gear softly. It'll be fine.

When they went to the slightly higher degree on the engagement ramp angle of the gear and dog, if the motor idled slightly higher, it was a bear to get out of gear without the interrupter.

Actually I dont have one on my 1993. It was missing when I bought it and I never replaced it. But my motor will idle at 450 in gear.

I had my gears and pinion replaced for about two weeks ago (the pinion had loose one theet)
My idle in neutral says 1k on the the tach (not sure with the gear in, if i remember right about 700-800).
Does this sounds ok or should or do i have to get it in lower rpm?
Got another problem after the gear replace. From time to time its no way that i can get it in revers.
But i figure out (on hose in garden) that the prop start to go rev but the control is almost frozen and the "rev clic" dosent sound.
After some tries forward and rev (in the garden on hose)it start act normaly again.

Should also say that i have no prob at all to get it in neutral.

7-800 in gear is too much. Look for a max of 650. Lower if possible.

Correct me if im wrong. But there is an idle screw where i can control the idle?
Got a seloc manual but im not sure if it covers up exact this at my engine.
