Anybody seen any new, innovative or "Why didn't think of that!" products at the boat shows?

Never seen one here, but Sounds good Dunaruna. Should hold up to the saltwater corrosion.

yep caught me right in the throat too :p

Tuffy Boats finally made me take notice this year!

I'm not too fond of glass boats but they redesigned and made MAJOR improvements this year.. If/when I decide on a new boat they just made a future purchase more difficult especially in being a local manufacturer just down the road from me in Lake Mills.

No , not coated but solid polyethylene. It couldn't handle much weight but I'm sure that with technology & time they will improve - interesting concept.

I'll try and find a web link.

We've had polyethylene boats for a few years now.

http://www.polycraft.com.au

Aldo

Quoting Dunaruna,
We've had polyethylene boats for a few years now.
I looked at the website you logged. Their boats look good. But how do you repair polyethylene when you damage it?

I thought that a comment on their site could be misleading. They state: Furthermore, polyethylene is not affected by electrolysis.

Although this might be true regarding the hull material, it is not true regarding any of the underwater metal that attaches to the hull - like the outboard, prop, swim ladder, trin tabs, etc.

I saw a lot of shiney but stripped down boats with underpowered engines, cheap trailers waiting for people to buy, get frustrated, and leave the sport we call boating.

The $20K 20 foot V8 new boat doesn't exist anymore :(

It was very depressing.

I don't understand why Merc can't put a lousy remote oil filter setup on a carbed boat. You have to buy MPI to get a lousy remote oil filter setup. What a crock.

Also, saw lots of the new TKS Merc carbs on boats trying to keep the price down. I don't know if this is good or bad. Good in the sense that people will have easy starting carbed boats. Bad in the sense that it delays widespread use of EFI in boats.

Stillfishing,

I saw a demo last year where the salesman was belting the hull with a hammer, not even a dent. The hull was new, I'd like to know how it stands up to punishment after a few years. The material was not rigid to the touch (felt strange), it wasn't spongy but it 'gave' when you pushed on it. Don't know how it will stand up to UV etc. I imagine that any repair would need to be flexible also. They have been on the market for about 4 years now and I have'nt heard of any negative reports but time will tell.

I'm considering buying one as a tender but need to do more homework - my concerns are the same as yours.

Aldo

I used to work on travel trailers. Part of the job was welding plastic holding tanks. The torch was electric with Nitrogen piped out the tip to carry the heat like a flame. Rods were plastic of the same type of plastic. Welding the freshwater tanks was no big deal. Welding the toilet tanks was a different story. PHEW!

The "rotocast" boats that are supposedly indestuctible are from Triumph Boats.

http://www.triumphboats.com/about/

Interesting concept. I believe they are owned by Genmar or Brunswick (Mercury). Not sure.

Re: Anything new at this years boat shows?

Some boats have signs like "$299.99 (or whatever) a month" but they never say for how many months or what the price is. Last summer I saw a young couple with a new baby signing away at a show. I sure hope they had more money than it looked like they did.

The best one I saw was at Bass Pro. Big sign "$99.00 a month" on a decent 17-18' package. Not big but all new. Motor seemed a bit small but still new. Figured it had to be for 100 years of payments. I finally found the fine print. That was for 6 months. Then the price went to $699 a month. Never did see the actual total price was.

Well you can get one for $20,085
http://www.tahoesportboats.com/boat/index.cfm?fuseaction=boat.motors&nav=18&boat=1701

I just bought the 5.0 MPI version of that boat. It's nicely made, and has a lot of nice features - stainless rubrail and grab handles, flip-up driver cushion, cd player, built in cooler etc. Though it is not as fancy as a Crowline or similar, it's definitely a step up from a Bayliner. Great value, and great family boat
