Anywhere to rent alignment tool?

I am going to pull my Alpha O/D to change the u-joints, and would like to check the alignment while it is off. However, I'm having a hard time justifying the ~$100 purchase on a tool that I *might* use once a year.<br /><br />Does anyone know of a place that rents the alignment (and other) tools? This is a fairly common practice with specialty auto tools, but I can't find anywhere for marine tools.<br /><br />Hmmm.... maybe there's a business opportunity there for someone.

They are on ebay every day. I bid on one last season and only paid $30 + shipping. Some machine in Florida is fabricating them. Good luck.

Interesting.... as in the yoke part of the u-joint assembly? Or something different? I can't find reference to an "input shaft".<br /><br />Thanks!

My local dealer rents one out for $10/day. <br /><br />Because of all the hassle and driving, I just bought one on ebay.

I bought one from Bashlor10 on Ebay, too. Measured it, to the mercruiser specs found in their service manual, ie it is the modified A3. I believe the modified A3 is the same as the A1 part number. Worked fine for me, and not worth the hassle to go rent one every year. Besides, don't you always need an excuse to buy another tool?

if you are LOYAL to your local dealer, they might be willing to loan you a tool for a day. my local dealer closes on sat at noon, and does not reopen till tuesday, they loaned me a tool sat morning to use over the weekend. just my 2 cents

Unfortunately my dealer is a 45 minute drive from me... I checked with them today and the good news is that they rent for $20/day. Not bad if you're close to them, but add three hours of driving time (2x round trip to pick up and return) and it doesn't look so good after all. <br /><br />I guess I'll enter the ebay bidding fracas...<br /><br />Thanks guys!
