i have a "OLD apache 2.5 hp that was given t me with a 14' jonboat Does anyone know who made them or if i can get a manual for it??

Do you have any serial/model #'s? I'm guessing you have a Clinton air cooled motor.

No model numbers unless they are under the paint, and it doesn't look like there is any place for the water to get in and up the shaft like most motors. I'm going to get a spark plug and see if I get any spark out of it. Thanks for the reply and I'll let you know how I make out...

Fouled Plug is right.The motor is by Clinton.I have here... " motors may be marked Clinton,Chief,Sprite,Peerless or Apache.Model number is given on ID. plate on the swivel bracket".It also says some J5 models are 3hp @4500rpm. Most are 5hp.<br /> The manual I have is "Old Outboard Motor Vol.1 by Intertec USA. Hope this helps.I know what's like to have old motors and no info.
