Just like the title says, wont go on,now i cant get it off.Took the drive off to change a shift cable, found the gimble bearing loose so i replaced it.alignment tool went right in,made sure it was in forward (outdrive) got halfway on,and it stopped.Gave it a couple good swift kicks, like i read in a few other posts, still didnt budge. Now I dont know what to do,it wont come off,it has to,i ruined the gasket trying to get it back off.Anyone wanna buy a boat???

Take it to a pro. Cross your fingers that you didn't cause any significant damage. Hope for the best.

I would try lowerong or raising the front of the engine and then pull on it again. A little either way get it free. You can also try a small prybar and some wood to keep the damage to a minimum. Or a big buddy and a couple beers after he rips it out. Ok so option 3 is a last resort.

If the alignment is correct the so called "merc kick" in un-necessary. It should push on by hand to within an 1/8 inch. you could reattach the rams and use spacers between the top cap and transom to remove it using the rams CAREFULLY

the drives are heavy. they don't always go in within an 1/8 inch even if the alignment tool slides right in. you also have to get the splines to line up with the coupler. then once that is done then it will most likely push in to about an 1/8inch gap and then i just draw it in with the nuts. sometimes they hang up coming out. keep at it. it takes patience.

Thanks gerald for the encouraging words.Well Bt,i got to trying to figure the way with the rams, didnt want to break anything else, since you said to be CAREFUL,so i got to thinking, looked in my toolbox, and seen my slide hammer, then it hit me,here some pictures, and a short video i took with my videoscope, sorry for the quality,my phone doesnt take videos very good.I got it off by the way.

Heres the gap,it wouldnt go on any further,or come off after that point

Ran a chain in-between the out drive, and the bell housing, and put a slide-hammer accesory through it

Screwed on my slide hammer, and started wacking away <-- no funny ideas =)

Doesnt look like any damage was done to the gimble bearing,or the splines inside, the outdrive splines dont have any damage on them either, thank god,and thanks for everyones suggestion. Now I just have to figure out why its not going on all the way.I am going to buy an alignment tool off of ebay, and check it myself this time,He said it was all good, wish I would of watched him check it.Put a car in front of me,and I can fix anything, put a boat in front of me,and watch me look like I am in kindergarden again
