How exactlly do you get it to be as straigt as possible? And go around boat curves?

Go out and pick up some fine line masking tape made by 3M. You can get it at any good auto body supply. Start at either side of the transom and apply the tape at the height that you want the stripe to start at. Then reel out however much striping you plan to apply (measure first) pull on the end of the tape, walk to the bow with the line of tape taught and pull it on to the hull. Stand back and admire the stripe and see if it is at the right height, has the right curve and looks good. If not redo it until it looks about right. Then just apply the stripe on top or under your tape guideline. If you are feeling really brave (or you have done this before) You can skip the tape and complete the above process with the stripe. I would use the 3M tape. Good luck!

Couple more tips:<br /><br />Remove polish along the proposed tape line first - using some mild buffing compound. If you don't, then the tape may come unstuck later in the season.<br /><br />Second, when applying tape, wipe the proposed tape line with a cloth dampened with soapy water - except for the first few inches. Stick the first few inches of tape, then walk along boat with length of tape and carefully move tape ever closer to hull in the right position. If it sticks wrong, the soapy water will allow easy repositioning until it dries.<br /><br />Do not pull tape too tight when lining it up, or it will shrink or come unstuck later.<br /><br />It's a technique - a doddle once you've done it one time.

I'v seen several ways to position tape. You can follow the countures of the hull, following small marks set by measuring from an edge, rubrail or so. If you want stripe to follow waterline, level boat on trailer so waterline is parallel to ground, on a straight surface. Build a little stand, with a pencil sitting on a horizontal bar of appropriate length. Now use pencil to mark buttom of stripe, same distance from ground. Place stripe along marks, you can now position correct undependable of curves and chine of hull.

Do you want to paint a line or use tape? If painting, I have seen tape that is made in 3 sections, you apply the tape, then remove the middle section where the stripe will be... as far as putting the tape on the boat, If you want a straight line, I think you could set up an inexpensive lazer level on a tri-pod and project a line on the boat to follow......just a though..
