Applying boot stripe vinyl

Just finished new bottom on a 32' Maxum 3200SCR, and was thing of adding a Vinyl "Boot Stripe" to make the lines look a little cleaner.
My question is, do I apply the bottom edge of the vinyl up against the bottom paint? (8 new coats of Interlux protect and bottom coat), over the edge a little, or keep a space between the two. The paint edge isnt too bad.

It looks better to leave an inch +- between the two, plus its easier to tape off recoats in years to come.......

it does look like you will have to dance around the overboard drain and tow hook a bit...
