Could someone give me an approximate weight, maybe within a couple of hundred pounds, of a 1972 16' fiberglass Ouachita boat with a 71 Merc500 on the back.

I'm considering buying an old trailor that has a max limit of 1485 lbs. Is the boat and motor too heavy for this trailor that is in good shape?

My guess is the hull dry is around 400 lbs. I believe your motor is around 150. With gear, fuel, seats, ice, beer etc. you're gonna be getting fairly close to 800 lbs. How far do you tow? What do the tires look like? What is their rating?

Re: Approximate boat & motor weight

Is the boat in your picture an Ouachita? It looks very similar to mine. Your's seems just a bit different on the platform up front and the curve up front seems slightly different. Mine has a console and steering wheel but that's about as close to mine as I've seen.

The trailor has new 12" radials and new bearings. It has a few spots of rust but not bad.

When I stand on the tongue and jump there is more flex than the Dilly trailer my boat came on. This was the only reason I was concerned. The "new" trailer is a Rolco.

The "new" trailor is sound as far as it's structure is but I just wanted to make sure I was well under the near 1500 lb. limit. I figured the motor was about 200 lbs. but had no idea how heavy the boat might be.

I generally only tow about 15 miles each way but on occasion around 40.
Thanks for the info.

Not mine, I just found her by Googling. Defintiely a Ouachita 16 though.
