Just had the boat out today, just as I was coming in fullspeed I slowed the engine down to an idle and the timing belt broke... I know what happens to most car engines , you bend the vavles.
What about these Volvo 125 , the same.

I wonder if my insurance will cover it , they did when I hit a rock with my prop.
I think they should, since they made be seperate everything.Haul, trailer and engine.
Insured $3000. on each item

The 125 is a non interference engine. Break a belt and the engine doesn't get hurt. I know of no boat insurance that covers broken belts. Rusty pulleys, rusty tensioner, age, that is the kinds of things that take out timing belts. That, is called maintenance, and preventive maintenance.

Thaks again Don,I do have a service manual just have to pull it out. Not sure why that belt broke its like brand new ,no inner cracks nothing . Idler not bad but will replace bearing.while I am in there. Are there any tougher belts on the marget or should I stay with this volvo belt.Do I need to buy from a boat dealer or could I get one from auto dealer.

Those belts are tough enough. if your engine is breaking new belts, then something is wrong and need to find what it is.

I bought a belt and tensioner kit from I think IPD. There is no difference between marine and car except for $100 difference in cost.

Phoned a couple of marine shops they wanted $50. for a . belt ,went and got a dayco belt for $18.00.
Timing marks all in same places on the belt.
Tension bearing alittle rough ,going to relplace that also.

That rough tensioner bearing is all it takes to make short work of a new belt. It hits a rough spot, hangs up, and slides, wearing out the belt.

Morning Don ,Just took everything off today and had a look , tensioner bearing feels dry. Can a guy rebearing it ,or do i need to buy a new one. Do I have to go threw a boat dealer or can I go threw a auto parts store like I did the belt.
If I go to a auto parts store.
Whats the best model of car i should tell them to look under ,as they have no listings for boats. ( 125 a)

80's vintage volvo 240 series sedan with B21 (2.1L) or B230 (2.3L) would be a match.
