AQ120B / 270 engine and stern drive oil

I just read a bulletin that said gear oil for the 270 should be the same as the engine oil. I use 10W40 in my AQ120B, but upon recommendation by a local shop that works on a number of AQ series outdrives, I have been using straight 30 Heavy Duty in my outdrive. Is this incorrect? Would like to hear what others think.

you're doing it right. frankly I doubt it matters too much. I used to run 10w-40 in my outdrive but switched to straight 30.
