AQ120B / 270 Exhaust hose - seeking info on replacement

I need to replace the exhaust hose that connects the exhaust manifold to the exhaust pipe leading to the lower unit.

The hose is not uniform in shape, but has a manufactured bulge in the middle.

Question.

1. Do I need that hose design, or can I use a straight exhaust hose?
2. What is the purpose or function of that shape of exhaust hose?

The bulge is designed to allow the boot to flex more then a straight hose. I would suggest that if your engine had this type on it prior you should replace with the same type.

did mine yesterday had to take off exhaust manifold less than 1 hour bought boot from Merck dealer $40
