Hi,

I'm doing up a pair of aq130's, and have had lots of help from you guys.

I was running the one engine for the first time today, running very well temperature was good but then the expansion/core plug blew out on the exhaust manifold pouring water all over my bilges, and the other one is weeping. Shut the engine off immediatly to prevent overheating.
Now I am thinking they may have just been loose as one is weeping, but could anything else have caused this?

How do I go about putting them back in, do I use sealant, or are they just an interference fit?

Kind Regards,
Louis

You can't reuse core plugs. Once they come out you install new ones.
A thin coat of gasket sealer is all that's needed, then peen the center of the plug in to secure it.

Hi Don S, Thanks for the reply. What do you mean by peen? Just push it in? Sorry to sound silly! Louis

After you you put the new core plug in place, I just use 2 ball peen hammers. Use the round ball end of one at the center of the core plug, hit that hammer with the other hammer to cave the center of the core plug in some (look at the old plug for how much). That is what expands the plug and holds it in.
