AQ130B Issues

I ended my last season thinking there may be an issue with my drive.

Engine sounds fine and the boat will reach cruising speed but once I reach about 25mph it feels like I am pulling another boat. She just starts slowing down to about 18-20mph and if I run the throttle to max she will start to spark knock.

Another poster told me to check the joins but everything looks perfect. In fact it looks like everything from the gimble housing back is had been replaced right before I got the boat.

Any ideas about where I should start my trouble shooting.. Hard to tell what the issue is because unless I run the engine under load it seems to run fine.

I had planned on replacing the plug wires and rebuilding the carb to restore lost power but should I be looking elsewhere?

Sure sounds like fuel starvation. I'd check for a blocked line, colgged fliter, colllapsed pump inlet hose, blocked tank pickup, etc.

I will definently check that as well. The previous owner bypassed the mechanical fuel pump with an electric pump. ANy idea what PSI the fuel pump should be pushing?

Anything above 7 psi will over-power the needle and seat.

Well upon further investigation I have been floating around on a bomb, It seems the PO put an automotive electric fuel pump in the boat. I just ordered the proper Fuel pump (Not electric) for her and I am looking for a carb rebuild kit. I figure while I am at it I might as well refresh the carb.

I also wanted to replace the ignition wires, Can I order Volvo wires for a car and then silicone the caps? If so what volvo engine should I order them for?

Its a volvo b-20 engine, but keep it safe, get the v/p wire set.

I would rather get the V/P wires but I am having a fun time locating them..

Yup, thats where I found mine. Heads up.... once you attach them to the cap, you have to break the cap to get them off. Ask me how I know. Get them on in the right order the 1st time :D

Thanks... I used the part number and found them for $79 at boatbandit. Works for me...

Got to get this cuddy in the lake. Otherwise I will have to take the Renken on the lake and a day of tubing with twin 225s will eat some fuel. :)
