Hello first post here. I just purchased a 1977 delta ski boat with a vp aq130c engine. I just got the engine fired up finally and there is no water coming out the exhaust. I have the outdrive muffed. My question is: is there no water coming out because the thermo is closed or my impeller is fried, how do I tell?

Thank you!

Re: aq130c water pump

The FIRST thing you check on any marine overheat, or lack of water problem is the impeller in the raw water pump. The thermostat will not stop water coming out the exhaust.
After checking the impeller, look at the hose connection on the drive. Not just look at it, pull the hose and see if the connector on the drive has corroded away.
Then, you may look at the exhaust manifold.
From there .........................

Let us know what you find with the impeller.

Thanks for the reply! well I checked the impeller, it looks tip top; however its not getting water... I took of the hose from the drive and its a tad corroded but solid. I took the pump input hose off and poured water down it and it came out the drive hose. so as far as i can tell water isnt getting from the muffs to the drive outlet port. I must admit this is my first time using muffs and there was alot of water squirting out the sides of the muffs, but the input on the drive is close to the leading edge........ the drive is a vp 270 but im sure you knew that:) oh yeah and i took off the exhaust bellow and there were a few dime sized rust flakes...

Thanks!

Re: aq130c water pump

It could be just a lack of water volume/pressure to the muffs. Also, be sure you plug the secondary intake hole on the bottom of the drive before you use the muffs.
If you are really unsure, back the boat down in the water and start it and see if water picks up.
