OK I will make a long story short.
Motor has not been run in 10 month since it was winterized. It could not be started because the oil pan needed replaced. Just got that done. The motor turns over fine. Was hoping it was a fuel issue but I checked for a spark at the cap and got none. This was reinforced by it not firing with starting fluid. I have the owners manual off Volvo's website. It is for the AQ131, AQ151, and AQ171. The 131 and 151 wiring diagram looks to use a points system but the 171 has a electronic ignition system. The reason I bring this up is that this 131 has what looks to be the ignition module on the motor with the same number of wire that goes into it on the diagram (it is not part of the coil like is seems on the manual though) and I do not recall seeing any wires coming out of the distributor. So I am thinking some has put the electronic ignition on this motor.
Now I am getting 8v at the coil with the key on. The module has a 12v constant on it and gets the same 8v when the key is on on another pin in its plug. I have not looked for the pick up sensor yet.
It is getting air and it is getting fuel (starter fluid at least) so that only leaves lack of spark for a failure to fire.
Is there anything else I need the check to see why it is not getting any spark. Unless some fool stole my rotor (humm will have to go check that as it could be) But assuming it has a rotor what am I missing?
