Greetings again.
1986 Bayliner, Volvo-Penta AQ131A-D .....

Well I put my $60 distributor cap on yesterday but did not have a garden hose attached so I did not run my engine.

Questions are: IF it does start up and then shut down again am I looking at a bad ballast resistor?

Would water in the fuel do this? (The boat has been sitting for a year)....

I am tempted to siphon the gas out and fill up both of my vehicles and go put fresh in.

That leads to the next question:

I was at the marina the other day and they sell the fuel filter/ water separator......

What brand is best for aftermarket?

The guy was trying to talk me into the Mercruiser brand and it looked bullet proof and had two taps so I could run an outboard right out of my main fuel tank.......

I did try to start the boat after the distributor cap, fired up and died again but it was cold and I figured it was best to wait until I get it into the driveway and get the hose hooked up to it.....

Most of my problems with this boat stem from the fact that it just hasn't been run.

Also note - this has an electronic ignition on it, no points......Probably aftermarket according to the dealer where the boat was purchased.
