Should also consider checking your engines dwell when you get it buttoned back up. ;)

Odd they don't have that in the owners manual, but it's 62?3?. Best to keep it as close to 62 or 63 as possible, they start best in that range. Without a choke, you need all the help you can get.

Info is from the engines service manual found here.

Yeah, you aren't that far from where I live now, I used to be a lot closer when I lived in Anacortes. The SJ Islands is where I worked and played.

Your that far away you can adjust my dwell. Been a long time for me since i did that style of dist cap. GM window easy.

Thank you for that manual.
It states the
(points .017)
(Plugs .028)
(dwell 62 + or - 3)

Owners Manual
points .157
plugs .032
dwell MIA

I think Ill go with the .028 on the plugs

I'm not sure what you are reading, but the service manual does NOT say .017 plug gap, it does say .7 mm gap (mm again not inches) and .7mm is basically .028 INCHES.

Nothing anywhere says anything about .032 dwell. There is a spot that shows 32?-36? of advance timing at 4200 rpm, but that has nothing to do with dwell.

Re: AQ131D point & plug Gap

Point gap is only a starting point so you can then adjust the points per the dwell setting. Start at .016 or .017 (either one will work) and then run the engine, opening or closing the points to get the dwell to 62 or 63?.
