AQ225E fuel issue???

hi everyone! new to posting so hope I'm doing it right. I have a 1986 21' bayliner capri AQ225E. I had a starting issue figured out it was the points and coil.... changed the points condenser and coil already had new wires and plugs. got it to fire now but it just starts for about 3 to 5 seconds and dies sounds a little like its starving for fuel. any ideas????? thanks in advance....

Is it starving for fuel?

When you pump the throttle do you see gas squirting into the throat of the carb?

Check your fuel filters and fuel pressure...

it does have fuel squirting out when i pump the throtle but not everytime. i pulled the fuel line in front of the carb and turned engine over and it pmped out alot of fuel. so maybe the carb is bad???

did you clean out the filter in the carb?

Filters, filters and filters and you just might want to do a rebuild on the carburetor. Ethanol jells up inside the carb bowl. Just went thru that with my boat motor. 4 weeks chasing a fuel problem and it was the carburetor.

I did check the filter on the carb it was very clean and there was plenty on gas pumping out rite in front of the carb so I figure the filter is clean. I guess I'll try the carb next....thanks I'll let you know

well rebulit the carb still have the same issue....it turns overs and runs about 3 to 5 seconds and dies still sounds like its starving for fuel....any other suggestions?????

You rebuilt the whole carb properly? and cleaned out all jets and holes with air? Maybe try squirting some fuel from a sqeeze bottle into the carb and see if you can get the engine to run longer? Just to make sure this is a fuel related issue? Besides that i would check my fuel pump with the link on this page, i am also having fuel pump related problems so i will be attempting this test tomorrow.
