Hi all, can someone tell me how to replace the sea water pump on my engine. I bought a new one, not just the impeller as boat had sat for aboit 4 years, diidnt want a bad seal to ruin my fun
I have removed the old pump (pain in the neck, as it was installed with regular bolts, there is no clearance to fit socket on as it hits body of pump)
i was about reinstall the new one (with new allen wrench style hardware) but holes are pretty large and need to know how.to center this thing.. do i just eyeball it? Is there a special tool?? Any help greatly appreciated... This is thr final thing before i splash my boat, been wprking on it for 2 years, been running it on the hose attached straight into the the water output of the pump hose....

its crank mounted and should be on studs. and no, you cant get a socket in there

it is piloted on the crank pulley which is piloted on the damper

your old pump was most likely fine. and a $3 seal is much less than a new $200 pump

Hi Scott, thank you for the response however i am still in the dark as to how this thing gets centered, there are no studs, just bolts and holes which are quite large compared to the bolts, i get that it mounts to the pulley/damper, my concern is getting it centered so its not wobbling all over the place, there doesnt appear to be anything that holds it in a certain spot so that when i tighten the bolts its sitting dead center of the pulley. I hope i am making sense... ( i am inside my head lol )
OR am i just overthinking this whole thing???? do i get it best i can and run with it?
Cant find anything about it on net or youtube

just so you can see, this is the kind i am talking about... https://www.ebay.com/itm/MARINE-RAW...01-CRANK-MOUNTED-OLD-10-24232-1-/253463247182

Well, i just went for it, for anypne wondering, it pretty much self aligns, i removed the rubber bushing from the bracket to give myself more wiggle room, bolted up the pump the..slid the bushing (with a little.gtease to help) back in as much as i could, then uses it bolt ro push it rest of way in... job done

Thats not a volvo pump, its a replacement pump with larger holes and it does not self align, you will find that the pump bearing will self destruct

you can have inserts machined for an exact fit,
