Hi would anyone be able to advise me on what resistance the water temp and oil pressure gauges work on. Ie ameican or european resistance there paired up with what I believe to be the original volvo penta gauges with the red and green scale. When I put a meter on the senders the water temp read 1.4k ohms and the oil reads 3k ohms. They seem to work OK but im just wanting to fit new guages in the dash.
Many thanks Sam

Since you're boat and motor are almost 40 years old. Suggest spending the extra $30 and getting new oil pressure sender and temp sender

I think without also saying in what state they are in, along with a reading…it’s a little more difficult to say…
But as said…usually us is high resistance to low and eu is the opposite. More usually wondered with reference to fuel sender and gauges perhaps. If you have a us made boat and in the us…most likely you’ll be us format

the V6 and V8 engines were upfit in the US

the volvo 4-bangers and inline 6-bangers were upfit in Sweden

hence one reason for the difference

the other, the boats were built standard with the gauges and the motors/rigging changed by work order. especially in the late 80's adapter harnesses were common.
