Re: aquafiend overheat problem

ok now we gotta recap. is the water pump kit new and in good shape with no signs of melt anywhere on the inside of the housing? was the rubber dam just aft of the pump removed and cleaned? has the pressure control grommet been replaced and the pocket carefully cleaned? have the t-stats been replaced ?
if all the above have been carefully done its time to continue testing. to test the thermoswitches ,remove them. hook an ohm meter between the black and pink leads. suspend them in a pan of water with a candy thermometer. the switches should close and show continuity about183-194*F and open again about 165-140 *F. if the switches pass this test it is time to remove the heads and head covers for cleaning.
to test the t-stats use the pan of water at about 125*F and suspend them in water, do not let them touch the pan. they should open rapidly at 125 degees.

Re: aquafiend overheat problem

yes new water pump kit ,no melt on housing
with the lower unit off the engine and muffs on the lower unit ... the water pump leaks from the driveshaft hole ... maybe this wont happen when the pump is going ? , the oring is underneath the metal housing ..
is this normal ?

it doesnt leak from around the pump. i will remove the water pump again and clean the rubber dam, brand new thermostats, got new pressure control grommets( valve is under thermostat housing)
can the heads be removed without lifting the powerhead off ?
---
the engine has been siting in the back of a truck for about 4 yrs i think, since the shift rod rotted and owner got new engine ... now i got the engine and all of its problems ;... he said it never overheated when he ran it .

is the shift shaft still rotted? if it is you have 2 choices, remove the powerhead and replace the shift shaft or convert it to a jet.. I woiuld figgure out the shift shat issue before going futher as the powerhead sometimes is more trouble to remove than its worth.
but I do know where a C model 115 that runs well is for sale cheap. the lower split at the carrier nut and the man bought an 05 F150 and now has to dispose of the old motor.

Re: aquafiend overheat problem

you really should have no leakage from the drive shaft hole. the pump should seal on both the sides and the ends in the cup/wearplate. usually that indicates a melted housing and the cup is recessed. no the power head does not have to be pulled to clean the heads and cooling system passages just the heads and head water jacket covers.

Re: aquafiend overheat problem

well i got a new water pump housing any way
put everything back together again
ran it idle for about 30 min engine in garbage can instead of muffs, seemed to stay at 120-130 on both sides so i will be going out fishing tomorrow ! finally
while the engine was trimemd up i noticed gas leaking out from the portside on the air silence
the higher tilt up the more comes out , doesnt seem like any comes out when the engine is practically down ... is this normal ?

Re: aquafiend overheat problem

no its not normal. check the hose from the lower portside silencer to the block. you may also have a needle valve leaking. at least it looks like ya got the overheat thing fixed.

Re: aquafiend overheat problem

there is or was a hose running from the lower port side of the block near the shift shaft area to a nipple on the lower port side of the airbox. if its missing waste fuel will drip from it. or you have a needle valve leaking.
