Archimedes Penta 39

Help! I recently bought a small rubber dinghy equipped with an Archimedes Penta 39 engine.
The engine doesn't work so I'm going to ask a friend to have a look at it to see what can be done to get it going.
The only additional information I can find is "6V 17W" marked on the cover and "0414898 AB Penta Utombordsmotorer/abarchimedes - Upsala Sweden"
Can anyone help identify the engine (manufacturer, model, year) and any other useful information my friend might need.
