I've delt with Arco for some years now and never had any probs with them. When you call them about something they're very friendly.

www.dbelectrical.com

DB was $69
Arco was $212

DB was suggested to me on here and it saved me almost $150. A lot of trucks upgrade to these due to how strong they are. I did a lot of research and found these to be good. Worst case you can take the brushes and parts out and rebuild your old one so buy two of them at that price. I rebuilt my old one and have it in a dry bag on board if I'm 30 miles out and it randomly dies.

I ski so we are always starting and stopping the motor. Say 20 times a trip, 1 trip a week average, for 6 months = 480 starts so far, but probably more.

just my 2 cents

Re: Arco starters ok?

I think that the bendix is the only problem with the one I have now and I plan to rebuild it. I want the security of having another starter onboard as you mentioned in case one gives up the ghost. I had my engine worked on recently and while the mechanic was taking the boat for a test run, the starter quit on him and he worked on it then and "fixed it". But since then, Ive had a little trouble with it so before I go 30-40 miles offshore, I want a new one. Couple hundred bucks sounds like a bargain if it never leaves me stranded. I will check out the other options you guys mentioned. thanks!
