The way the tell tail works on a 2 stroke vs a 4 stroke. I was just told by someone that should know that because of the thermostat on a 4 stroke that I should not become alarmed when I have no tell tail, is the correct?

That is not correct for Suzi 4 strokes, Oaksmith.

On, for example, a Suzi DF70, the tell tale runs when there is water pressure being generated by the water pump. The thermostat is irrelevant.

If there is no tell tale from a DF70 you are in big trouble, or the tell tale itself is in trouble.

Tell us why you care, like rodbolt asks.

On a almost new 40HP Yamaha 4 stroke the tell tail has water coming out sometimes and then other there in no water coming out. Does water have to come out of the tell tail for the engine to be cooling properly?
Another interesting thing is that today upon the first start there was a tell tail later today I din't have one, after bringing it home and blowing air into the pee hole, it had one. This has happened serveral other times.

That is an example of the tell tale being in trouble, oaksmith.

Check for a screen on the water intakes to keep debris out. When you blow INTO the TT you simply push the blockage back into the cooling system. Next time, pull the tt hose and remove the blockage.

Good luck. :)
