Are 898/260 LU compatible?

I just had an old 898 given to me, all complete except the LU. I have no Idea what year it is, the hull doesn't exist anymore and I can't find a legible serial number anywhere. But if it helps, it's a 2bbl 305 with a points ignition.
Would the LU from a 1980 260 bolt up to this?
And would a 898/260 outdrive hold up to a 455 Olds big block?

whats a LU?
if its a lower unit? do you mean the gimbal housing or the drive? or the short block 898 is a 305 sbc
if so yes most mercriser stuff is interhangable
no a olds big block will not fit with out considerble machine work....
the 898 drive will only take upto about 300 HP. before parts start to break....
898 is late 70;s early 80/s

Yes, the lower unit, the foot.
The 898 I got is all there except for the lower unit.
I'm only interested in the motor for myself but my neighbour is asking if he can use the gimbal housing, transom plate and bell housing, the whole mid section, along with a 260 outdrive that he has avalable to him. To put behind a 1975 455 Olds...
