Are some outboards better for salt water? Looking for a smaller 4 stroke...9.9 or 15hp.

Yes...all Nissan outboards are designed to be used in both saltwater or freshwater applications. Nissan outboards are used worldwide by commercial fishermen whose main application is saltwater usage. To help combat the corrosive effects of saltwater, all Nissan outboards are treated with a unique paint process which includes starting with marine grade aluminum alloy and then applying a high solid epoxy primer undercoat and then a high solid acrylic resin coat of paint. In addition, critical parts are made of stainless steel and all outboards include a zinc anode. As with any outboard used in saltwater, it is recommended you thoroughly flush your motor with freshwater after each use.

Really no OB is just primed and painted. They all have about 7 layers of special primers, and paints. The foundation aluminum on OB's are strong and the parts are made to combat both water types. ALL METAL WILL CORRODE WITH SALT WATER!!!! Whether is says "ocean runner", or "Salt Water series" it's still pretty much the same as everyone else. Maybe a few more stainless parts. All OB's have zinc annodes also. Run, rinse and flush with fresh water after every salt water use and you will ok. Also, if your going to be going in salt often, good idea to coat the powerhead and electrical parts with WD-40, and Keep all pivot points and grease fittings full of marine grade grease.

LMAO!!......nothing like making standard Ob features sound AWESOME and one of a kind.

It's like decribing a car as: This Automobile has a High Gloss Clearcoated finish with a Unique Braking System on ALL 4 wheels, made of a special Ceramic Composite to Aid in stopping. All powered by a All metal internal combustion engine that uses a perfect ratio of air and fuel to ignite all grades of gas, and provide great power for daily cruising. We finish it all off with comfortable cloth wrapped seats and a antiglare dashboard to maximize your driving pleasure. All surrounded by solar treated glass that makes road and wind noise vitually disappear.

Just discribed a standard 1989 Honda civic, with no options. sounded nice though did'nt it?
