I was talking about possibly getting a used Bayliner on another thread and people were mentioning these boats coming in at around $10k new. That seems like a misconception as I can't find any for under $15000. someone thought maybe that's the price w/o a trailer (or maybe engine, LOL j/k).

I'm not saying they're not worth that and I would likely end up getting a pre-owned boat anyway, but I don't want to buy a 2005 boat and find out later that I could have gotten a brand-new one for the same price!

Let me know what you guys think. I'm looking at a 18 or 19' bow rider, potentially.

Thanks!

Sure they do- if you can go back in time about 20 years.

We were looking last spring and at that time they where close to 18g's and that was for the 18 bowrider. Went up about 5g's from a few years ago when we where looking.

We're considering a Bayliner 19 or 20, or a competing brand. Don't know much about boats, but we're now living on a lake and would like to get out and about to visit friends, waterski/board/tow the kids. We'd like a reliable, low-maintenance (relatively speaking!) boat, don't care about impressing anybody, just having fun. The Bayliner seems a great deal compared to SeaRay, Monterey, Cobalt, etc., but people keep dissing it. When they talk about the better components, are we talking about the construction/mechanics, or just the cosmetics? As far as I can tell, the Bayliner & the Sea Ray have the same engine. And are boat show prices a great deal, or should we still be trying to negotiate a lower price? (and how low do new prices go % wise? Is it worth the hassle?) Seeing we need lots of handholding (I'm really a kayak-person...), new w/ warranty, lessons, etc., seems the best way to go for us.

Welcome to iboats!

All the brands use the same powertrains. The difference is in the layouts, the quality of the fittings, the quality of the vinyl used, the construction of the hull, and features/accessories. I personally would have fun with a Bayliner, and laugh all the way to the bank!
