My parents still use them on their boat. If they are not rusted someone will use it.

I know the fuel tank is functional, but it has looks to be 40+ years and you can read alot of the writing on the side. I did not know if it was worth more than just a fuel tank, maybe collectable

If you just bought the motor, keep the tank and use it. The plastic ones they make today are lousy. Your metal tank will last a lifetime. If it doesn't look good enough for you, a spray can of red paint will make it look spiffy.

Hi, with a good sanding and a quick coat of Red....They look great...safer...and more stable under the transom, than the plastic ones. Plus, the fuel outlets won't snap off as easy as the plastic tanks.

i still us mine. I ended up having to use it because the plastic one doesn't fit behind the last seat by the transom. If there are no leaks, I'd still use it...or even if there was, I'd fix it and then use it.

I bought a cheapie atwood plastic tank from walmart several years back, it's been poofed out so many times from the sun shining on it and vent closed that it doesn't sit flat on the bottom anymore, it's like a weeble.
I also have a metal tank and it scratched the heck out the fiberglass deck from where it bounces and vibrates and when I pull it out to refill. I have a plastic OMC 6 gal tank that I found floating full of fuel after a holiday weekend and it's been the best tank I have, the plastic is much thicker than the atwood and the fuel connection is also heavier. The metal style cans need some type of rubber coping around the bottom pinch weld and that my only complaint.

OMC makes a rubber molding kit that snaps on the bottom lip of a steel tank. It combines the advantage of a steel tank with the advantages of a plastic one.
