I have never liked Mercs... With that being said, I am in the market for a new 90hp. outboard.. Where I currently live there are no Honda or Yamaha dealers for over 200miles... That leaves Merc.... Are they any good or just Merc. blowing hot air about their "new" engines!

thanks

Evinrude Etec ?

I don't think there are any bad engines being made now.

If you buy something not liking the brand, you will either be totally converted, or you will find anything and everything to complain about. Mercury is as good or better as anything else on the market. As roscoe said there really aren't any bad engines being made. The market sees to that

We thought the same thing, yams were the best.
Then we bought a 1984 22foot Maco with twin 2002 115hp EFI.
We do perfect maintance, its a long list PM if interested.
We blaze all over Puget Sound and lake Washington, These two motors have never missed a beat.
If you don't stress the motor, it will last longer than you, get the boat planning and throttle back as much as you can. If you go wide open throttle all day your going to be back here for a block or help.
