Re: Are there any musicians here?

I played trumpet in HS and then professionally in college along with bass guitar. Played bass in many bands, and currently just jam with friends. While I still have my American made Fender Jazz Deluxe and an Ovation acoustic/electric, these days I mostly play my ground fiddle...

Re: Are there any musicians here?

I played the drums for over 15 years starting with a high school band. I later joined a touring band and met my wife while doing this. I couldnt keep up the life style and settle down so I gave up the band and have never been sorry for it. Several of the former members are now dead from this wild life style and I limit my music to a keyboad I keep in my garage, For some reason every time I mess with it the wife will go into the house and say nothing untill Im finished,,,,,,,,,,gezz

I played in bands for many years and the same thing here.....lifestyle was a killer.......got all kinds of stories not all good and many of my bandmates are in pretty bad shape(Including my brother/Bass player) Prison, junkies or dead........Aint drugs great? When I got my act togather I put down the playing in bands for about two years and now if I do play with some guys I make sure theres no party favors invovled but mostly I like to hook up online and do some recordings........met some cool amazing musician this way......besides touring is too much work for too little pay..........

Played every brass instrument growing up, focused on Tuba in highschool gaining a partial scholarship that I had to pass up. Still mess around on the trombone occasionally. Nowadays, I mostly play guitar for myself and while jamming locally with some friends. I also play bass and can fumble through the piano. Drums are really a no go for me. Can't get the separation in my right hand and foot to play well.

Re: Are there any musicians here?

I started out not even a year and a half ago, first guitar was a washburn electric. Now I own a washburn bass guitar, galveston acoustic electric, and an ibanez electric guitar. I am still learning but who isn't there is allot to learn out there. You all are welcome to check my guitar riffs out on my website under
"http://www............................" edited for my own reasons

click the my guitar riffs link. Some of them are from when I was first learning so they might be sloppy. Some of them I created myself.
These riffs may take a moment to load especially on dial up like I have. I need to pick the guitar up more but I've been playing boat mechanic. I needed the money so I pawned my banjo, nobody wanted to give me anthing for it, I didn't know how to play anything but some of dueling banjos on it. If ya'll do visit the site let me know if these guitar riffs are playing or not because I have trouble with the internet sometimes and it won't let me check them when I would like. Here I am still learning and I was at a music store, this older man heard me talking and offered me a chance to join his band.. I told him "look I'm still learning I pretty much would like to find some place reasonable to take guitar lessons and that I'm fixing to have surgery done" he still wanted my phone number so I gave it to him, I haven't heard from him yet. They travel also. Somebody told me later on that the best way to learn is joining a band.

Re: Are there any musicians here?

As a teacher I know that a good one may be hard to find and they are not cheap.....thats for a reason the stores are full of teachers that care only about stringing along the students as long as possable and the stores themselves promote this.........Most only care about the bottom line.......as most bussiness's do. Look for a teacher that isnt afraid to give references and one you has pride in their craft. I have students I have been teaching for years and still feel comfortable giving me $20 an hour to do so........The stores here in Springfield charge $ 16 per 1/2 hour and its almost always some young still wet behind the ears teacher with no reason to worry whether or not your growing as a guitar player or not.......As a matter of fact for every hour lesson to my advanced students I give I often have to put a 1/2 to an hour into coming up with stuff that is going to take them a little farther. Also most of the stores wont give full hours due to with a half hour lesson close to 10 mins. alone is taken up with greeting and set up.........now add to that any problems you may have had that week with your lessons, your paying for a refresher lesson........I push my students for hour lessons( I charge $12.50 a 1/2) and really pride myself in their learned skills as well as I offer to record them in my home studio when they are ready........For an extra $5 I often offer some of their lessons put onto CDs..........Look in the classifieds and craigslist and ask lots of questions before you go but keep in mind its a business so come prepared and practice... practice.... practice.....

Re: Are there any musicians here?

I'm trying to find a tabbed version of .38 specials song called "second chance". I would love to find that. They played at our local concert, I always loved that song but honestly didn't know they were the group that sang it until the guitar started and he started singing, my brother and I looked at one another in ah, because we didn't know they sang that song. Any idea were to find it on tab, I have searched and searched for it. By the way did you get a chance to check out my riffs?

Re: Are there any musicians here?

I havent yet .....but I will here in a bit. The record labels tried suing the companies that put tabs out on the net awhile back and many went under so its a bit harder to find good tab sights......keep looking, you will have to wait until some guitarist likes the song as much as you do wants to expend the energy to tab it out and then post it.......

Re: Are there any musicians here?

Not to hog the thread. I tried tabbing it out using power tab editor, very hard to do, my first attempt trying to convert any chord into tab. Needless to say I have more to learn as far as converting also lol.

Re: Are there any musicians here?

Some will say not so but There are three types of musicians. They are those that play for their own enjoyment, Those that play for other peoples pleasure and those that play for THE MONEY. Only the third requires any real talent, lessons or no lessons.

Re: Are there any musicians here?

I have a old Charvel 375 deluxe that was mid range priced 18 yrs ago.........Higher end guitars today dont compair. I also have a Epi Les Paul standard thats custom colors and hardware, very, very nice looking axe.......wife came home one with it for me one day. Im not real happy with the tone and sound so I found a guy to trade me for a Strat that was worse for wear but had great pick-ups and upgraded hardware. she got all sad because I was trading my pretty guitar for an ugly one.......guess what? I still have the Epi.......
