Bought an 89 40hp Evinrude. I believe this used to be oil injected, but it's been removed so I premix.

Champion Spark Plugs QL78YC. Are these the originals? Should I just get another set of these or are there better options out there?

According to shop evinrude and other sites. The plugs should be QL78C. I do not know what the Y stands for or if it makes a difference.

Gapped to .030 and ready to go! I just wanted to make sure these weren't some generic ones the previous owner threw in. I question everything that guy did to this poor motor.

'89 parts book is showing QL82C not YC. The Y is extended tip. In some cases the Y type plug was used, but not on this model that Imcan find? I don't remember if this was one of those cases? 1995 also shows QL82C! Don't believe you should use the extended tip in this application. At least check further before proceeding.
