I have another post on here with my problem but I felt this deserved its own thread.

As a lot of you know i'm having issues Planing my boat with a m40c tohatsu

I was wondering if different props require different thrust washers to preform properly?
For example I have two props one is a four blade and one is a 3 they are from different manufacturers
I noticed that the thrust washer sorta sits inside the 4blade like it belongs there .
On my three blade prop it just kinda sits on top of it...

will the wrong thrust washer effect performance ?
thanks

After doing more research I may be confused does the thrust washer go between the prop and shat or between the prop and nut that locks the prop in?

I apologize for my ignorance but what i took pictures of is the "washer"
My question remains do i need a different thrust washer for every prop if its from diff manufacturer?

Sometime yes, sometimes no. It all depends upon the design of the prop. For example some Vortex props do have a special bronze thrust washer that spaces the prop on the shaft better than the stock thrust washer.

Confusion is normal here!!! You must talk to the prop people and or motor manufacturer support. A GOOD dealer may be a help but from what I have personally experienced good dealers are hard to find and may not answer your questions if you have a small motor. My Solas has it's own thrust washer and it happenes to be smaller than the original OEM prop TW. I will tell you though that the thrust washer goes on the shaft in front of the prop. The force of the rotating blades against the water pushes against the thrust washer. What you are showingis the back of the prop. Look at the assembly or parts drawing for your original motor and prop. Then talk to the new prop manufacturer!!! You need to understand the way your system works.
