Are Transom Bars / Outdrive support any good?

I keep my boat on the trailer when I'm not using it. The OMC dealer said I should think about a transom bar or what I call an outdrive support.
I have a 21' bayliner with a 3.0L OMC I/O not a big 250 (plus) horsepower outdrive.
Is he trying to sell me something I don't need?

(For winter storage, the drive is in the down position as the manual suggested so there is no way I could even use a support for winter)

The bar is a good item to support the outdrive while trailering, but I can't see why anyone would suggest you store it that way. You are correct in storing yours completely down.
