I need some advice from some been there done that people. The boat is a 1972 Aristocraft 19. Has an inline 6 Mercruiser. I thought most of the water I was taking on was from the shift cable boot that was split. Got that repaired and water still gushing in. about 5 gallons in 5 minutes. Now I know I have another challenge. The transom at the bottom of the outdrive housing is cracked and the previous owner told me he sealed it with silicone. The Silicone is all cracked and peeling off. When I launched it at the ramp I noticed a bunch of water coming in and pulled it back out. I could see water trickling out of the crack in the transom.

My question is this...can I use 3M 5200 Marine sealant applied liberally to the crack and make this boat usable?

What are the different routes for repair on this. Approximate cost, who does the repairs, anything the average boat owner could/should tackle?

Re: Aristocraft Crack in Fiberglass Transom

if water is gushing in that bad, you may need to remove the leg and grind the paint and inspect the glass. The crack is close to the bottom of the leg and a patch that small may just be a temporary fix, you may need to re-glass the whole transom. The torque from the engine will just keep cracking the area.

Ayuh,... The Transom is just plain ole Rotten.... No amount of Putty is going to Fix it..
If you're Not handy enough to remove the motor drive, etc,... Fix the Hull, then reinstall it,....
Paying somebodyelse to do it will run Many,.. Many times more than the Value of the hull will ever have....
