armature plate install 9.5 evinrude

took off old armature plate from 72 9.5 evinrude,<br />inner circle is grooved on old plate, there is a grooved piece on the cam shaft. the new plate is smooth and will not fit correctly . should i try to remove grooved piece from shaft? don't want to screw up the shaft! thanx capnwill@comcast.net

it looks to me that the center of the plate broke off and the remaining piece is still attached to the shaft. any ideas how to get the piece off the shaft? it stuck on real tight!<br />thanx

Welcome to iboats, capnwill!<br /><br />I think I'm starting to get the picture now, the thin brass hub of the armature plate is siezed to the boss on the block? Or are you talking about the cam sleeve that acts on that goes over the crankshaft which acts on the points?
