aromic cedar vs cedar boards

I'm not trying to be funny.
Is it just the smell or totally a different wood?
IE: Spanish cedar is a very hard wood vs boards to build a fence.

I have been looking through wood sellers and cant find it listed.

Home depot or most lumber supply places sell 4x8 sheets of cedar press board for "walk in closets" and it has no real stuctural strength but it does smell.

Wrong. Eastern Red Cedar, most often from the mid to southern Appalachians, is the species referred to as aromatic cedar. Western Red Cedar has little or no aroma. Eastern Red Cedar is actually a juniper rather than a true cedar.

I believe BB is correct.

As a tad I used to make trinkets of the heartwood of eastern red cedar for my sisters to put in their closets and bureau drawers. Very aromatic. That's what "cedar" chests are lined with.

The cedar fenceposts around The Hideout have aromatic heartwood as well, but only the red heart, and seem rotproof. Some have been in the ground for 100 years.

The western cedar used in construction seems to share the resistance to rot, but doesn't have the strong aroma of the eastern (heartwood only).

BB is correct. Wrc is used for cedar stripped canoes and fenceng and is the cedar tree. "Aromatic cedar" is used for closet lining and is really a juniper. tree. Totally diferent animals. Chief Chief

And to add to the trivia, Gin is made from the berries of the juniper also.

If you want some Juniper you can come out here and cut all you want, since fire suppression it is overrunning everything.

I usually keep some chips of it in my dressers and closets, suitcases even.

I was under the assumption that you were whole heartedly against smoking, or do you just collect cigars ?

Pretty much what I thought
Had never heard of the 4X8 sheets.
But I checked Lowes and they have them.
Also have thick enough boards that I can
split and use on the inside of a trunk.

I am not against smoking, just smoking in certain areas. Its everyones right to smoke, but people also have the right to not be affected by it IMHO. Restaurants are an example of that for me, in that I feel smoking greatly affects a dining atmosphere and the distinction betwwen smoking and non smoking areas is ambiguous. I rarely smoke cigars, but on occasion if I am with some friends and we are just sitting outside camping or by a fire I like to enjoy one or two. Its a tough fence to straddle.......respecting the right to smoke and the right to clean air at the same time.
