This should go in stupidolts human tricks....

Replacing tstats for the first time. Working with boat in water engine tilted up and sitting on transom - very good accessibility except view is mostly from the top. Take out the 4 bolts. Cover stuck to gasket. Expected. Stick screwdriver in and whack THE DAMN CYLINDER HEAD COVER GASKET - ONE @#@$^&&* GASKET TOO LOW. Took out a good chunk - can see it bent and mangled looking through tstat seat. The drawing in Clymer's doesn't really give a fair indication of how thin the tstat housing is but that's no excuse for not just plain looking.

Lucky local dealer had cover gasket in stock. That job took forever - has to be the most complex gasket I have ever seen and cleaning off residue took forever. Not to mention cleaning crud off 22 bolts.

It was interesting to see only minor corrosion in all the water passages after 11 yrs in salt, but no I did not pull this idiocy to inspect the water passages....

Because I took a piece out of the gasket and was sure I would have a water leak.
