...I just purchased two new ignition coils for my 73' 65 HP Evinrude.
http://ww2.sierramarine.com/sierra/...ils and Related Products&item=18-5194&check1=

The plug wire is attached directly into the coil assembly, with the boot and metal coil clip that fits inside the boot to clip onto the plug are sepret. The coil clip has a barb that comes off the bottom extending about 1/4 inch then turns up the height of the coil with a sharp point on top. I have tried every wich way to assemble it, but I dont seem to have it figure out. Any help would be greatly appreciated. ( I have never made plug wires before)

Re: Assembling spark plug wire help!

For the plug ends you first strip the end of the wire so you can fold back the metal strands about 3/4" over the top of the wire.

On the plug connector measure the distance between the pointy bit and the coil. Now mark that same distance back on the plug wire end.

With the plug connector at a 90-degree angle to the wire, poke the pointy bit into the wire as far as it will go. Now rotate the coil around to the front side of the wire. It should nestle up snugly against the metal strands that were folded back over the top.

Use some soapy water to lubricate the insides of the boot and slide that over the plug connector and wire assembly.

It's sort of one of those operations that leave you baffled until you get it right the first time. Then, it's a piece of cake.
