Re: assist or trim?

That is an assist to raise the engine. The "trim" is the rusted pin that goes through the holes in the clamp bracket. You set it for whatever works for you and it stays put and is to set the engine angle.

so any hope for a push button automated trim is out the window with that cylinder? like i stated before the difference between a trim motor and the whole deal is quite a bit....? right?

looking at the condition of the motor, i would not invest a lot in it.

Get the proper model number off the tag and you can look up parts here http://epc.brp.com/

Re: assist or trim?

well i dont have $10,000 to put into this boat. ive already scraped the barnicles off and the pics. make it look worse than it actually is its just chipped paint. and as far as i know paint doesnt affect the hp.... call me stupid but it irks me a bit when posters want to be negative or tell me not to do something... i might do it just to prove someone wrong... but thats just me... ive got 2 hands and tools and friends to help. hopefully yall are some of those "friends".... its just the paint damnit!!! lol

I don't think you will find it possible to change your existing set up. Even if it was free I would advise you to just stick with what is there. Why? Because stainless shafts passing through aluminum housings are nearly impossible to get out after sitting in salt water.

I can?t speak for someone else but my take was that some people were simply advising you to avoid the ?money pit? syndrome and also to be prepared for the difficulty you are likely to face in removing & replacing that well-seated assist cylinder. You got suggestions and reasoning behind them. Numerous contributors here have experience that is worth noting. If you want to tackle the job then I admire your resolve. Just be prepared for the possibilities.

Seriously, good luck relocyo with your project. :)

Frankly I think an Evinrude 85 V4 powering a Glastron GT150 is a super cool rig. Evidently so did James Bond!
