one end is attached tot he plastic lever that lifts open the butterflies to the carbs. The other end has a screw attached to a piece of plastic that i can't figure out where it goes. Anyone able to help me out here?

Hey Nidz

I think that wire goes above where it's attached to move the choke plates or the main butterflies manually. Not 100% but it looks like the same thing on my friends blue band 50hp. Should attach to a choke solenoid or manual plunger knob.

What year is your motor? I used 1980 cause my friends is that year.

Part 19 I think is your wire with plastic part of the choke knob.
Part 17 is the choke knob, all in one piece.

Re: Assistance identifying a wire - Blueband 1150 Mercury

Thanks Damian. I'll check that out. I'm guessing it's under the cover up the top where the flywheel is. I was confused as the wire was on plastic so wasn't earthing anything by the look of it so what you say makes sense as some kind of pulling cable. It looks like the plastic bit has split so that's caused it to pull away from whatever it connects to. Thanks for your help and quickly!

Hey Nidz

No problem, I got 'ALOT' of help here since iv'e joined so when I can help out , I try.

I do not know your year otherwise I would have gave you a direct link to your schematics. Pick your Year , HP , then Model . Schematics might help here and there, if not you can always post here and we will "hook" you up.

Not sure the year model of my outboard.. has the following stamp on it.. I am guessing '82 but not sure.. From looking around I think the 8 at the start represents Australia.. I thought the 82 is the year.

Is anyone able to shed some light on the details that this serial number provides? I have tried searching Mercury model lists but can't seem to locate much.. Most of them list US models only.
