Assistance needed: added a temp/speed sensor to my Lowrance and not working

Ok guys, quick backstory:
I have a good older (10 years?) working Lowrance X28 high definition depth sounder. I bought a (new) ST-T temp/speed sensor for it and plugged it in the cabling without issue. I have not fully installed it off the transom but I tried it out in a bucket of water to see if the temperature would get picked up and shown, etc.
However, their is no change in the readout on the Lowrance and no apparent menu button for it.
Supposedly this speed/temp sensor was optional for these units and you could add them on.
Do I have this correct? Is their something I am missing on this?
I didn't see a whole lot of direct helpful info on the Lowrance site and this is undoubtedly a better place to ask anyways.
Many, many thanks in advance!!

X28 does not have temperature display capability.

Yep, you used to be able to send them in and have them upgraded but I don't know if they'll still do it. SOW via that paddle wheel is about useless but the surface temp is kind of nice. A thermometer will probably serve you just as well. I had it on my 525CDF but didn't bother with it on my HDS-8.

You guys are right....here is another quick update on this.
Originally I had a Lowrance X-25A depth sounder mounted before coming across the X28 and mounting that. I still have the X-25A unit...and it did have the option for temp/speed...hence the ST-T option and it mentions it in the index but to no great detail other than having it.
(Bhile, I rechecked and...yep you're right on with that...the X28 doesn't have that ability)
So, I (quickly) tried the newly acquired ST-T with the X-25A and I'm not seeing anything show up on the screen.
Is there typically some sequence or reset or? that has to happen for the temp/speed sensor to take and enable itself in the unit?
Many Thanks....again.;):)
