well i fixed some problems but the one that still eludes me is i cant get the motor to idle correctly. I have a 98 johnson 70 hp model #j70tlec. Rebulit all 3 carbs. it will run but idles ruff at 1/2 or full throtal it run fine.
After running for a while i have to hop on the gas so it wont stall. set the low idle screws to 2 1/2 to 2 3/4 turn just like the book says. anyone have ides. compression is fine two cylinders are 110 and one is 115.

Re: at my wits end

I would investigate the fuel delivery system first. Tank pickup, vent, fuel line, bulb, fuel pump. Make sure there are no restrictions or air leaks. Also do a spark test to check for a sharp blue snap across a 7/16" gap at cranking speed. A bad spark plug may cause this as well so I'd invest in a new set to rule out the simple stuff.
Good luck

Joe Reeves has an excellent thread on setting these carbs. Do a search for it. If I remember correctly they must be set independently of each other.
