I have a Briggs and Stratton 5hp outboard. I've noticed that when in neutral, the prop spins in reverse. and when i put it in FWD it make a bang sound. how can i fix this? I've never messed with it. there is no impellar/waterpump. it's aricooled. anyone have this happen?

Just guessing::
It appears the shift linkage may be damaged or out of adjustment.
If its in reverse in neutral it probably doesn't reach forward all the way,
Thus the banging.

Thanks JB!!! "7. Be patient. If you haven't had a reply, it is because no one with a useful reply has come along." But I am glad I bumped it back up or steelespike never would of seen it!! Thanks! I will look at it. I've never messed with shifter so idk why it would do that. When it is spinning the blade in reverse in neutral, it isn't going too fast I can stop it by hand without really hurting myself.
